(1) Professional membership shall include all of the following:[Back to top]

a) persons having received a minimum of 120 hours of approved Satir training.
b) persons applying Satir knowledge and skills in their workplace.
c) persons who are interested in furthering the purposes and objectives of S.I.P. and who identify personally with the Satir Model.

(2) Clinical membership shall include all of the following:[Back to top]

a) persons having received a minimum of 120 hours of approved training in the Satir
Model.
b) persons possessing a graduate degree in psychology, counselling, social work, nursing,
medicine or a related profession.
c) persons who belong to a provincial or national professional organization or association
approved by the Board of Directors of S.I.P., such as:

(i) British Columbia Association for Marriage and Family Therapy
(ii) Canadian Guidance and Counselling Association
(iii) British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors
(iv) British Columbia Association of Social Workers
(v) Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia
(vi) Registered Pyschiatric Nurses Association of British Columbia
(vii) College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
(viii) College of Psychologists of British Columbia
(ix) or similar membership in other geographical jurisdictions.

d) persons who are involved on a regular basis in the practice, direction, instruction or research in the field of therapy and counselling.
e) persons who are interested in furthering the purposes and objectives of S.I.P. and who accept the Satir Model as their primary professional therapy model.

(3) Affiliate membership (open to students) shall include all of the following:

a) persons having received a minimum of 60 hours of Satir training.
b) persons who are interested in furthering the purposes and objectives of S.I.P.
c) persons who are interested in supporting the development and use of the Satir Model.[Back to top]

(4) Community membership shall include all of the following:

a) persons who are interested in furthering the purposes and objectives of the Institute.
b)persons who are interested in supporting the development and use of the Satir Model.

Community membership includes people who support the goals of the Institute e.g. people in other professions such as Law, Accounting, Computer technology, or those who have participated in Satir groups e.g. The Changing from the Inside Out Program (18 hours), or spouses and significant others. Benefits of Membership:

(1) All members of the Institute will be offered opportunities for training, workshops and seminars through the Institute at a rate lower than that offered to the general public.

(2) All members will be invited to "Members Only " events such as video days, discussion groups, and special inservice trainings.

(3) All members will receive a S.I.P. newsletter (The Wisdom Box) with information about trainings, special events, research, and initiatives being taken on by members. It will also be a way of networking with other professionals committed to the Satir Model.

(4) All members will have access to the SIP Lending Library. Contact Pauline Chan for further information.

(5) Members of the Institute will be eligible to apply to the Board through the Director of Training to offer and run training programs in the Satir Model as follows:

a) Professional members shall be eligible to offer workshops, seminars and training programs for the public and for organizations, excluding training persons to be counsellors or therapists.

b) Clinical members shall be eligible to offer workshops, seminars and training programs for counsellors and therapists, as well as for the public and organizations.

c) Professional and clinical members will include in their program proposals a demonstration of their ability and ongoing relevant professional development, and evidence of liability insurance.

d) Affiliate members will not be eligible to offer workshops, seminars or training programs through S.I.P., nor will they use their affiliate status in S.I.P. to promote themselves professionally.[Back to top]

(1) Professional $50.00
(2) Clinical $50.00
(3) Affiliate $25.00
(4) Community $25.00


N.B. Members joining the Satir Institute of the Pacific after October will be considered paid up for membership until the end of the following year.

(3) Membership applications will be reviewed at the next meeting of the Board of Directors.

Upon acceptance, the applicant will receive
a copy of the Institute By-laws and a Certificate of Membership from the Membership Secretary, and the most recent issue of the newsletter.

In the event that membership is not approved, a letter will be sent by the Membership Secretary explaining what is required to complete membership requirements.[Back to top]
